About Mark
McMahon's "The Portable Professional" .
I've known Mark
McMahon for a number of years. He drove a car from Tucson, Arizona all
the way to the tip of South America. I first met up with him in Panama
on his way south and I caught up with him again in Buenos Aires at the
completion of his trip. Such a trip would be story enough for any man,
but the part of Mark's brain that made the trip to Patagonia is just one
part of a very creative and innovative brain.
Mark is the
sort of guy you could sit down with at La Biela, the famous Cafe in Recoleta,
and spend the afternoon drinking three bottles of Argentine wine and not
get bored with the conversation. Mark talks in concepts and he doesn't
stop talking, because he has plenty to say and what he has to say shows
that he does a lot of thinking. Mark always has at least ten projects going
at the same time. Among other things he is about to embark on a Book Tour
from Tucson to Alaska in an RV Van that looks like a psychedelic Oscar
Mayer Weinermobile. The tour is to promote Driving To The Ends Of The
Earth one of his latest books.

Mark has just
completed another book available in pdf format entitled The Portable Professional,
which is about a subject dear to my heart. How to make a living in US
Dollars or EURO's from anywhere on the planet. Hey, the motto on our
magazine is "Live Where You Want To Live! ~ Live How You Want To Live!
~ And Make Money Doing It!" The concept of making money from wherever
you happen to be anywhere on the planet is the Raison d' etre of our website,
to use one of those fancy French phrases that nobody can pronounce.
Now Mark has
written an eBook on the concept, condensing a great deal of very important
information into 102 pages. As Mark puts it, "With the technology available
today, you don't need to wait until retirement to live the life you always
dreamed of." Mark is right. Today's technology includes Skype & Vonage
phones, which allow any one of us to live anywhere there is broadband and
to have a global telephone 'presence'; whether the presence required is
in London, Quebec, Singapore, New York and/or almost anywhere else in the
world that the impression of a 'virtual' presence suits our needs. Add
in internet fax, International Callback, Fax on Demand, Download on Demand,
and the ability to instantly transfer data, spreadsheets, images, photographs
and much more at the mere flick of a mouse button and the point is well
taken. Then there is the internet itself, which allows us to access a volume
of information that more than rivals almost any brick and mortar library
in the world. Video conferencing? Of course, and so on. We use such tools
and devices to operate and maintain EscapeArtist.com with a staff from
around the world. Why should you sit in Detroit when you could be sitting
on the Côte d'Azur? The amount of software and hardware that allows
us this sort of global freedom already exists and it is astounding - -
plus numerous new innovations in the field that strengthen our abilities
are increasing exponentially on a daily basis. The road ahead is clear
for those with the vision to see.

In today´s
business climate companies have become more distributed globally, so that
they now work across time, space, and every conceivable boundary. The nature
of staff/teams has also changed significantly. Staff/teams are now commonly
made up of onsite employees as well as consultants, vendors, and others
working in a variety of geographical locations: offices, on the road, from
home, at client sites, and more to the point of this discussion, on the
other side of the globe. ...and why not? Globalism means global people
who can function in a borderless world as world citizens.
Telecommuting
occurs in large and small companies, and in public and private organizations,
but 'freelancers' can also telecommute. We've had a Virtual Office section
on our website since its inception. The Virtual Office is a virtual reality.
It is possible to run a business from any location on the planet. It's
true that some locations are easier to work from than others, but with
the right tools, technology and planning it is possible to run a business
from a desert island, the deck of a boat moored in a Mediterranean yacht
basin or from a sheep ranch in the Australian Outback.
The tools
for such entrepreneurial science fiction are evolving much faster than
any one of us can keep up with. If living your life as if it belonged to
you is one of your aims, then this eBook, The Portable Professional, will
show you the steps required to achieve that freedom. Live where you want,
live how you want to live, and make money doing it. As someone who has
managed to make a living on those terms, I recommend this eBook as a giant
step in the right direction.
